Irish heavyweight champion Kevin "The Clones Colossus" McBride (28-4-1, 23 KOs) captured the vacant IBC Americas title with a devastating 3rd round KO of Craig "C.T." Tomlinson, of Reading (PA). Before a standing room only crowd, including a large, vociferous band of Irish supporters singing and waving Irish flags, McBride was led into the ring by a pair of bagpipe players and drummer. It wasn't too long before McBride was playing a tune of his own on Tomlinson's body, blasting away with a series of punishing body shots. After a "feeling out" first round, McBride got Tomlinson's attention with a left hook to the side of Tomlinson's head. "C.T." got off the ropes, if only for a brief moment, but he was serenaded by a right to the body and two left hooks that sent Tomlinson to mat. Tomlinson may have survived the second, however, it was merely a matter of time. A big McBride right sent his dazed opponent down again for another 8 count. Pinned on the ropes and in a desperate situation, Tomlinson somehow avoided the brunt of several McBride punches to the head and body, only to be whacked by a powerful right that literally put Craig through the ropes. His legs remained tangled in the ropes as he was counted out. "My
dream is to win a world title," McBride said after the fight. AARON TORRES WDEC6 JOHN TRIGG In the
co-feature, Philadelphia-born lightweight "Aaron "2-Guns"
Torres (11-1, 6 KOs) had his most impressive performance as a
pro, winning a 6-round unanimous decision from cagey veteran John
Trigg (9-18-5, 2 KOs), of Athens, GA. After a rather sluggish
first two rounds, Torres simply outworked and out-punched Triggs,
who has been in with the likes of Juston Sencion, Juan Diaz and Robert
Garcia. Torres won on all three cards: 59-55, 58-57, 58-56, IAN GARDNER WTKO3 KEITH SONLEY Canadian
Ian "The Cobra" Gardner (6-1, 2 KOs), now fighting
out of Brockton, stopped Keith Sonley (3-5-4, 1 KO), of St.
John's, Candada, at 1:35 of the 3rd round in their super
middleweight match-up. Gardner was too quick of hands and feet for
Sonley, whose nose was badly bloodied at the end of the first round.
The bout was stopped on the advise of the ring doctor due to his injured
nose. JADSCHI GREEN WTKO 3 JIMMY LE BLANC Five-time
Michigan Golden Gloves champion Jadschi Green (7-2-2, 6 KOs),
of Kalamazoo, came into South Boston super lightweight Jimmy "The
Dream" LeBlanc's (9-2-3, 3 KOs) backyard and went home with
a 3rd round TKO win. LeBlanc's corner halted the fight
at 2:35 and he was later learned that LeBlanc had broken his hand. JEFF FRAZA WDEC6 ROBBIE SANCHEZ In a
non-title fight, New England super lightweight champion Jeff "Hellraza"
Fraza (12-2, 6 KOs), of Haverhill, took a unanimous 6-round
decision against Robbie Sanchez (2-18-2, 1 KO), of Miami.
The scoring was 60-56, 59-55, 58-56. ADAM MOSSES WDEC4 RICK ZOL Making his pro debut, Adam Mosses (1-0), of Gosstown, NH, was awarded a unanimous 4-round decision against Rick Zola (3-20-2, 1 K), of Springfield, MA. Mosses, fighting out of South Boston, won by scores of 40-37, 39-37, 39-37.

JOEY DE GRANDIS WDEC10 DANNY SHEEHAN Light
heavyweight Joey DeGrandis' homecoming was a hard fought,
toe-to-toe 10-round decision against veteran Danny Sheehan.
DeGrandis, the South Boston-native, is living in Chicago and hadn't
fought in Massachusetts in five years. It was
a give-and-take contest with action from the opening to closing bells.
DeGrandis (30-5, 13 KOs) took control in the second-half of the fight
against Sheehan (8-19, 3 KOs), fighting out of Brockton. DeGrandis
won on all three judges' cards: 99-92, 98-92, 97-92. "Now
that was a fight," DeGrandis said after the action finally stopped.
"Everybody got their money's worth. There were two guys with
big hearts who wanted to win. This was the excitement that I wanted
to bring back to New England. Joey D is back. I'll be taking more
fights here." WILLIE GIBBS WTKO2 MUHAMMED NUHU
In the co-feature, Philadelphia-born middleweight "Sir"
William "The Gladiator" Gibbs (9-0, 8 KOs) continued
his winning ways with a second-round stoppage of Muhammed Nuhu
(3-10, 1 KO), of the Bronx via Ghana. The fight ended 26-seconds into
the second round on the advise of the ring doctor after Nuhu complained
that he couldn't see out of his right eye due to an injury. IAN GARDNER WTKO3 KENNY STUBBS Canadian
Ian "The Cobra" Gardner (5-1, 1 KO), now fighting
out of Brockton, dropped Bahamian super middleweight Kenny "Jacob
Outlaw" Stubbs (9-8, 7 KOs) three times en route to a third-round
TKO at 44-seconds. The referee stopped the scheduled six-rounder for
Gardner's first pro KO.
AARON TORRES WTKO2 DARAN MILLER Hot
lightweight prospect Aaron "2-Guns" Torres (10-1,
6 KOs) won by TKO at 1:44 of the second round against Bahamian Daran
"Little Hands of Stone" Miller (0-5). Miller couldn't
continue when he suffered a cut while intentionally butting Torres,
the Philadelphian now fighting out of Brockton. DEREK
ENNIS WDEC4 HUSTON CRATON In
a very entertaining match-up of fighters making their pro debuts,
Philadelphia junior middleweight Derek Ennis won a four-round
majority decision from Huston Craton, of Brockton, 40-36,
38-37, 38-38.
JOHN RAINWATER WDEC4 WILLIE LEE KEMP Fighting for the first time in more than two years, Worcester's John "House of Rain" Rainwater won a controversial four-round decision from heavyweight Willie Lee Kemp, of Troy (NY), who hadn't fought since 1997. Rainwater, who had a point taken away for a low blow, won on two cards 39-37 & 38-37 while Kemp go the other 39-36. |

KEVIN McBRIDE WKO3 RAYNARDO MINUS
In front of a rowdy Irish crowd, heavyweight Kevin "The Clones Colossus" McBride knocked out Bahamian heavyweight title-holder Raynardo Minus late in the third round in the main event of the fifth Mohegan Sun FightNight New England (MSFNNE) series. McBride, the reigning Irish heavyweight champ, will now fight for the IBA Continental American title sometime this fall. The 6-7, 260-pound McBride (27-4-1, 22 KOs) - fighting out of the Petronelli Gym in Brockton (MA) - was cheered on by hundreds of his fans at the standing-room only capacity crowd at The Roxy nightclub. McBride, who entered the ring trailing a bagpiper, came after Minus from the opening bell and didn't let up until he hit Minus with a right hook that sent the Bahamian champ stumbling to the canvas. WILLIE GIBBS WKO3 KENWORTH MINUS
In the six-round co-feature, hot middleweight prospect "Sir" William "The Gladiator" Gibbs remained undefeated (8-0, 7 KOs) when he knocked out Reynaldo's older brother, Kenworth Minus, early in the third round. Gibbs sent the elder Minus to floor twice in the first round and twice again in the second. Gibbs landed a crushing left hook to the chin early in the third round that sent Minus to the mat. Gibbs, of Philadelphia, is the cousin of undisputed world middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins. MARTIN THORTON WKO4 MANUEL TEO
On the undercard, crowd favorite Martin "The Irish Assassin" Thorton (1-0-1) scored a last-second knockout in the fourth round over Manny "Cheeks" Teo (4-9, 3 KOs). Thorton attacked Teo in the waning moments of the last round with a series of furious punches the sent Teo to the mat at 2:58 of the fourth round. JOSE ORTIZ WDEC4 LARRY GREEN
Welterweight Jose Ortiz (3-5-1) of Springfield won a unanimous four-round decision over Larry "The Dream" Green (0-1-1) of Haverhill in a rematch of a fight earlier this year that ended in a draw. Ortiz opened the first round by bloodying Green's nose with a left hook and then knocked Green down with a right cross. Needing a knockout for a victory in the fourth round, Green came out strong only to be completely dominated by Ortiz. DAN VESCOVIC WKO1 TROY LOZANO
Brockton's Dan Vesckovic (1-1) gave Troy Lozano (0-1) a rude entry into professional boxing by knocking him out in the first round. Vesckovic, who is 45-years-old, dropped the 220-pound Lozano with a right cross barely a minute into the fight. CEASAR CRUZ WDEC4 JERRY SMITH Ceasar
Cruz (1-0-1), of Springfield, and Jerry Smith, of Atlanta, Georgia
(13-26-1) battled to a four-round majority draw. Judge Robert
McCoy ruled the bout 38-37 in Smith's favor, while judges Charles
Shearn and Daniel Fitzgerald both scored the fight 38-38. |

JEFF FRAZA WDEC10 KEVIN WATTS As an emotional crowd took turns serenading their favorite fighter with chants of either “FRA-ZA” or “Here we go Southie, here we go,” the vacant New England super lightweight championship was contested by longtime rivals, Jeff “Hellraza” Fraza, of Haverhill, and “Cocky” Kevin Watts. Fraza’s relentless attack resulted in a surprisingly easy unanimous decision in his favor 99-90, 98-91, 97-92 -- largely due to his conditioning thanks to his new trainer Dicky Eklund (“Irish” Micky Ward’s brother and trainer) and stronger, crisper punching. While Watts (16-2, 5 KOs) often threw wide punches without much behind ‘em, Fraza (11-2, 6 KOs) nicely “sat” on his punches, effectively planting his feet and getting everything behind his hooks. Watts suffered a cut over his eye in the first round and was deducted a point for holding in the ninth round.
JIMMY LE BLANC D6 ANDRE BAKERIn the co-feature, welterweights Jimmy LeBlanc (9-1-3, 3 KOs), of South Boston, fought crafty North Carolina-invader Andre Baker to a six round draw. In what was best described as a defensive struggle, neither fighter was hurt at any point and Baker, who upset Fraza in his last Boston-area appearance, proved to be the spoiler again.
KNOWLEDGE BEY WDEC4 STEVE SIGLIANOSteve “The Tunnel Rat” Sigliano’s (7-3, 4 KOs) return to the ring after a 2 1Ú2 year hiatus found him, naturally, rusty and Knowledge Bey aka Thomas Latson took advantage of the situation. In an entertaining bout, Bey (2-2-1, 1 KO) floored Sigliano, of Quincy, in the first round and cruised to a unanimous four-round decision (40-45 all three judges).
LARRY GREENE D4 JOSE ORTIZ In a highly competitive and entertaining bout, welterweight Larry “The Dream” Greene’s (0-0-1) pro debut ended-up a draw against Jose Ortiz (0-5-1), of West Springfield. Greene, also fighting out of Haverhill as Fraza’s stablemate. One judge had Greene winning by a score of 39-37, another had it by the same score in favor of Ortiz’, and the third scored it even, 38-38.
JEFF JONES TKO1 DAN VESKOVIC “The Outlaw” Jeff Jones registered a first-round TKO (2:31) of Dan Veskovic, who was making his first ring appearance in 20 years. Jones (7-3, 7 KOs), of Brockton, knocked down Veskovic, also fighting out of Brockton, with a right hook only 16 seconds into the fight. A round hand soon opened a cut over Veskovic’s eye and a right hook dropped Veskovic. The referee ended the match at this point.
MARTIN THORTON TD3 JAMES MC CRAY Making his pro debut, super middleweight Martin “The Irish Assassin” Thorton, fighting out of South Boston via Ireland, seemed to be establishing himself with a barrage of left hooks against Atlantic City veteran James “Rocky” McCray, but the fight was stopped in the third round due to a cut suffered by McCray, the result of an unintentional head butt in the opening round. The fight was declared a technical draw.

KEVIN MC BRIDE WTKO2 GARY WINMON Led by three bagpipe players and entering the ring to a loud serenade from the passionate pro-Irish crowd, Irish heavyweight champion Kevin “The Clones Colossus” McBride (26-4-1, 21 KOs) stopped Gary “The Bull” Winmon (25-8, 17 KOs) in the second round after a one-sided assault McBride (254 3Ú4 pounds), the Clones, Ireland native now fighting out of the Petronelli Gym in Brockton, came out aggressively and pounded Winmon (240 lbs.), of Donora, Pennsylvania, on the ropes with a barrage of powerful, clubbing rights. Near the end of the second, McBride caught Winmon on the ropes with a right hook to the chin, followed by a strong uppercut on the button, and left hook to the body that sent Winmon to his knee. He stayed there and the fight officially ended at 2:42 of the second round. WILLIE GIBBS WTKO2 JERALD LOWEIn the co-feature, middleweight prospect “Sir” William “The Gladiator” Gibbs (8-0, 7 KOs) remained unbeaten with a second round TKO (3:00) of Jerald Lowe (3-5, 1 KO). Gibbs, the Philadelphia native now fighting out of Brockton, ended when referee Paul Casey ruled that Lowe, of Atlanta (GA), was unable to continue due to bleeding from a cut inside of his mouth.
SHAWN CREEGAN WTKO3 DAVE HAMILTON Lynn super middleweight Shaun “Big Trouble” Creegan (12-1-2, 2 KOs) outworked and out-punched Dave “The Hammer” Hamilton (15-8, 5 KOs), of Hanson, in a very entertaining fight. Creegan controlled the action and his constant pressure resulted in a standing eight-count given to Hamilton near the end of the second round. Hamilton’s trainer, Goody Petronelli, wouldn’t allow his fighter to go out for the third round.
ANNMARIE SACCURATO WTKO2 ANN MARIE FRANCEY Annmarie Saccurato (1-0, 1 KO) made her pro debut a success with a second-round TKO of the game Ann Marie Francey (1-1, 1 KO). Saccurato, of White Plains (NY), thoroughly dominated Francey, who was issued a standing eight-count in the second. Referee Casey stopped the fight at 1:38 when Francey, of Somerville, was pinned on the ropes under a barrage of punches from Saccurato.
TOMMY ATTARDO WTKO3 JOHN MERCOGLIANO Crowd pleaser Tommy Attardo (10-8-1, 2 KOs), of South Boston, handed Medford welterweight John Mercogliano (4-1-2) his first pro loss. The gutsy (12-1-2, 2 KOs)Attardo pressured Mercogliano and finally floored him in the second. After getting a standing eight-count in the third, Mercogliano was unsteady and referee Dick Flaherty halted the bout.
JAMES MC CRAY WTKO3 RON LAPIDO Cagey veteran James “Rocky McCray,” of Atlantic City (NJ), won a unanimous four-round decision from local favorite Ron Lapido (5-3), of Canton. JERMAL BARNES WDEC10 HECTOR SANJURJO “The Pitbull” failed to slay the “Last Dragon.” Cruiserweight Jermal “Last Dragon” Barnes stopped his two-fight losing streak with a controversial 10-round split decision against Hector “The Pitbull” Sanjurjo in the main event. The cruiserweights went at it toe-to-toe from the opening bell in an action filled match with Barnes (15-2, 4 KOs), the elementary school teacher from Rochester (NY), using his boxing skills against the aggressive Sanjurjo (12-7-5, 7 KOs), of Taunton. Barnes effectively used a stiff jab, lead right and solid combinations, while Sanjurjo stalked Jermal, often taking a few punches to throw some haymakers. Barnes won on two judges’ scorecards 97-93 and 96-94, while Hector was the choice of the other official, 98-92.
KEVIN WATTS WTKO2 ED MC ALONEY Junior welterweight “Cocky” Kevin Watts (16-1, 5 KOs) set-up a showdown against Jeff “Hellraza” Fraza (10-2) in next month’s MSNNE main event in Revere with an impressive second round TKO (1:05) against Ed McAloney (11-5), of Pembroke. The flashy Watts, of South Boston, out-boxed McAloney, who got a standing eight count in the opening round. Watts’ sharp punching opened a deep cut opened over McAloney’s left eye in the second round. Another standing eight count was followed by an examination of Ed’s eye by the ring doctor, who advised the doctor to stop the fight.
DAVE HAMILTON WDEC6 MANNY TEOIn a very entertaining match-up of local super middleweights, Dave “The Hammer” Hamilton (15-8, 5KOs) won a six-round majority decision from a game Manny “Cheeks” Teo (4-7, 3 KOs). Hamilton, fighting out of Brockton, narrowly edged Teo, of Hudson, 58-56, 58-56, 57-57.
BILLY MOFFORD WDEC4 DANNY SHEEHAN Always entertaining Danny Sheehan (8-17, 3 KOs), also fighting out of Brockton, gave away 15 pounds to Billy “The Kid” Mofford, 212-197, in a battle of heavyweights. Despite suffering a “flash” knockdown from a body shot in the opening round, Mofford, of Randolph, won a split decision 39-37, 38-37, 38-39.

RICHIE LA MONTAGNE WTKO2 WILFREDO MUNIZ Cruiserweight Richie “The Mountain” LaMontagne, 195, wasted very little time with opponent Wilfredo “Pepe” Muniz, 194, in the main event. LaMontagne (25-4-1, 19 KOs), of Everett, was satisfied with a “feeling out” first round, in which, he landed several solid body punches. LaMontagne caught Muniz (10-3, 3 KOs), of South Boston, on the chin with a vicious left-hook and although Muniz beat the count, referee Paul Casey wisely stopped the bout at 1:05 of the second round.
This fight
was LaMontagne’s first with head trainer Goody Petronelli and assistant
trainer Chris Pender in his corner. Richie firmly established himself as a
serious threat in New England’s most talented and deepest division. Fans
immediately started talking about a potential showdown between LaMontagne
and New England/Massachusetts cruiserweight champion Tim Flamos. AARON TORRES WDEC6 DARAN MILLER
Lightweight
prospect Aaron “2-Guns” Torres (9-1, 5 KOs), the Philadelphia
native fighting out of Brockton, continued his winning ways with his
seventh straight victory. Torres, 135, stopped Daran Miller, 133,
of The Bahamas, with a devastating body shot that left Miller (4-4, 2 KOs)
on the canvas holding his sore rib cage. The 10 count ended with
20-seconds left in the first round. WILLIAM GIBBS TKO3 KENNY STUBBS Much to the delight of
the sellout crowd, middleweight prospect “Sir”
William “The Gladiator”
Gibbs, 159,
remained unbeaten with an utterly complete destruction of
Kenny “The Jake” Stubbs,
158, of The Bahamas. Gibbs (6-0, 5 KOs), of Philadelphia and fighting out
of Brockton, floored Stubbs in the first round with a left hook to the
body. Gibbs unloaded a strong right that dropped Stubbs again early in
the second and a powerful right put out the lights 12 seconds into the
third round. SHAUN CREEGAN WDEC4 MANNY TEOReturning to the
squared circle after a 3-1Ú2 year hiatus, Shaun “Big Terrible” Creegan,
163, won a majority decision from game Manny Teo, 161, in a super
middleweight match. Neither fighter was in trouble as they exchanged
punches from start to finish. Creegan (10-1-2) was slightly more active
than Teo (4-6, 3 KOs) and got the edge in scoring: 40-36, 39-38, 38-38. BILLY MOFFORD WDEC4 HAROLD RODRIGUEZ The most
entertaining match-up of the evening may have been the four-round bout
between heavyweights Billy “The Kid” Mofford (3-1-1, 1 KO), of
Randolph, and making his pro debut, Harold Rodriguez, of Taunton.
Mofford, 211, and Rodriguez, 220, took turns throwing haymakers and
landing a few bombs. Experience may have been the difference as Mofford
won a unanimous decision: 40-36, 40-36, 39-37. CHRISTINA RONDEAU WTKO3 PACHICO US lightweight
kickboxing champ Christina Rondeau, 131.4, kept her feet on the mat
and buried Koren Pachico, 128, winning by technical knockout at
1:40 of the third round. Both fighters pawed at each other for two rounds,
but Rondeau (1-0-1, 1 KO), of Woonsocket (RI), finally put down the pro
debuting Pachico, of Manchester (NH), with a right upper cut early in the

TIMMY FLAMOS WDEC10 HECTOR SANJURJO Flamos Retains New England & Massachusetts Cruiserweight Titles
Timmy “The Hammer” Flamos,
191, won a 10-round split decision against Hector “The Pitbull”
Sanjurjo, 192, to retain his New England and Massachusetts
cruiserweight titles. The much-anticipated match was action packed,
although difficult fight to score because neither fighter was seriously
hurt at any point. Flamos (15-2-1, 7 KOs) was able to fight his fight:
inside and rough. The 34-year-old from Brockton showed considerable
improvement in style, using a surprising jab to his advantage and showing
better balance. Sanjurjo (13-6-5, 7 KOs), of Taunton, was dangerous when
he had some distance to fire his lead left. Flamos won on two judges'
cards, 96-94 and 97-93, Sanjurjo won the other, 97-93. |

RICH LA MONTAGNE WDEC6 DANNY SHEEHAN In the co-feature,
cruiserweight Richie “The Mountain” LaMontagne,
191, made the most of his first fight in Boston in nearly two years by
winning a unanimous six-round decision from always-tough
Danny Sheehan, 193, and gaining a
wife. LaMontagne (24-4-1, 19 KOs), of Everett, and Sheehan (193), of
